Stock which is critical to an emergency response will be purchased and stored at different locations.
Following an earthquake, it is likely that main transportation routes will be compromised. Storing spare stock at multiple locations means potentially faster access to the infrastructure required to restore the backbone of Wellington’s power supply.
Spare stock will facilitate the ability to:
- Restore critical power supply across the region more quickly
- Construct around 19km of critical 33kV emergency powerlines
- Reduce significant outage impacts in the event of an 11kV cable failure.
Spare stock will include poles and wires to repair around 19km of critical 33kV overhead lines, and spare cables, cable fault location equipment, cable joint repair kits, critical distribution switchgear and transformers to repair 11kV cables.
This stream of work will be 95% completed by 31 December 2020 with the remainder completed by March 2021.
