We're installing a new cable to increase the reliability of our electricity network and offer increased capacity for future power needs.
About the project
Wellington Electricity (we*) is your local lines company responsible for managing the poles, wires and equipment that safely deliver electricity to Wellington, Porirua, and the Hutt Valley.
We're installing an underground electricity cable between 11 Prosser Street and 24 Mohuia Crescent in Elsdon, Porirua. The project involves digging trenches, installing protective pipes, then covering everything up once the cables are in place.
Stages
The project will be split into six sections, shown on the map below. The first 3 stages have been completed, and we're currently well through stage 4.
How the work might affect you
Most of the work will be on the northern side of Prosser Street heading into Mohuia Crescent. To keep you and our crews safe, we'll have traffic management in place to guide pedestrians and vehicles around the worksite, and some parking spaces will be temporarily removed. A road crossing with stop/go traffic management will be in place at each end of the works.
If access to your property is going to be affected, we'll contact you directly to let you know what's happening. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Work will take place in October and November between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, with some Saturday work also planned.
We aim to have the trenching completed by December to avoid the busy Christmas period.
Some noise will be inevitable, particularly as we dig up the road. We'll attempt to minimise as much disruption as possible, and all work will take place during the day to make sure we comply with local and national noise regulations.
No. As we're not working on any existing cables, we shouldn't need to turn off the power.
