We're installing new power ducts to reduce future disruption to the Titahi Bay footpath and cycleway.
About the project
Wellington Electricity (we*) is your local lines company responsible for managing the poles, wires and equipment that safely deliver electricity to Wellington, Porirua, and the Hutt Valley.
We have two cables located under the proposed Titahi Bay cycleway, which are due for replacement in the next 5-10 years. To minimise future disruption to the cycleway, we're laying new power ducts which will allow for easier and less disruptive installation of cable replacements.
The new cable ducts will be installed along the stretch of Titahi Bay Road shown below, and is planned to be completed by late December.
How the work might affect you
To keep you and our crews safe, we'll have traffic management in place along Titahi Bay Road. To minimise traffic disruption we won't begin traffic management until 9am each day, allowing peak traffic to flow towards Porirua city. During the afternoon the Titahi Bay bound lane will be prioritised as people return home from work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Work will be take place in November and December between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Some noise will be inevitable, particularly as we dig up the road. All work will take place during the day to make sure we comply with local and national noise regulations. Any loud noise will be during normal working hours.
No. As we're not working on any existing cables, we shouldn't need to turn off the power.
