Wellington Electricity is proud to be a partner of EnergyMate, which was handed the 2022 Outcomes Award at last month's New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards. The award celebrates better energy outcomes for all New Zealanders, particularly around accessible and inclusive energy products, services and solutions.
Led by the Electricity Retailers' Association of New Zealand (ERANZ) in collaboration with electricity retailers, lines companies, community organisations and the Government, the EnergyMate programme is a pilot designed to provide free energy coaching for Kiwi households at risk of energy hardship, helping whānau keep their electricity bills low and homes warm.
"We are proud to accept this award on behalf of our members and the partners who enable us to deliver EnergyMate" said ERANZ Chief Executive, Bridget Abernethy.
"We want all families to live in warm, dry, healthy homes with affordable energy costs. EnergyMate demonstrates the power that cross-sector initiatives have to improve outcomes for New Zealand consumers."
"EnergyMate is not about brand or winning new customers. It’s about delivering targeted energy support to whānau so they can achieve energy wellbeing."
To date, around 1,500 households in 13 locations have been supported through the EnergyMate pilot by 76 community-based energy coaches, with an independent evaluation finding that 90% of customers had a better understanding of energy use and efficiency after an EnergyMate visit.
