The new cable will support the Moa Point wastewater treatment plant and strengthen the Miramar Peninsula's electricity supply
About the project
Wellington Electricity (we*) is your local lines company responsible for managing the poles, wires and equipment that safely deliver electricity to Wellington, Porirua, and the Hutt Valley.
We're installing a new underground electricity cable to support Wellington City Council's new Moa Point wastewater treatment plant and strengthen the Miramar Peninsula's electricity supply. This project is a key step to ensuring the wastewater treatment plant can be commissioned in July 2025. The work will begin in early November 2024, finishing in early January 2025.
Stages
The project will will take place in three sections, shown on the map below, along Raukawa Street, Monorgan Road, and Ira Street.
How the work might affect you
To keep you and our crews safe, a traffic management plan has been devised and will be in place throughout the whole project. The project has been divided into smaller stages with traffic management in place with some controlled stop/go in sections at major work areas to ensure everyone’s safety.
Road side parking will be impacted as the crews are going past residential properties. If access to your property is going to be affected, we'll contact you directly to let you know what's happening. Access will be reinstated each night and in emergency situations. Our crews will endeavour to keep all disruption to a minimum.
Frequently Asked Questions
Work will take place from late November to early January, between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Some noise will be inevitable, particularly as we dig up the road. We'll attempt to minimise as much disruption as possible, and all work will take place during the day to make sure we comply with local and national noise regulations.
